Memorial Healthcare and GST Michigan Works! Unveil Innovative Apprenticeship Program – Neurodiagnostic Technologists to be Focus

Owosso, MI (August 2023) (Re-release, March 4, 2024) – Memorial Healthcare (Owosso, MI) and GST Michigan Works! are proud to announce the launch of an exciting new Neurodiagnostic Technologist apprenticeship program.

Developed through a strategic partnership between the two organizations and building upon a legacy of institution-supported on-the-job training, this initiative aims to revolutionize regional workforce development. The collaborative effort between Memorial Healthcare, a leading mid-Michigan healthcare institution, and GST Michigan Works!, a workforce development agency, has created an apprenticeship program that promises to shape the future of skilled labor in the community. By leveraging the expertise and resources of both entities, this program offers a unique opportunity.

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist Apprenticeship Program caters to the escalating need for proficient experts in the dynamic Neurodiagnostic field. With rapid advancements in medical technology and the increasing prevalence of neurological disorders, there is a pressing demand for highly skilled professionals who can effectively perform Neurodiagnostic procedures.

Recognizing this urgent need, Memorial Healthcare has taken a proactive approach that aims to equip aspiring individuals with the necessary knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on experience to excel in the specialized field of Neurodiagnostic technology.

By offering a comprehensive curriculum, participants will understand the intricacies involved in conducting Neurodiagnostic tests, interpreting results, and providing vital support to healthcare professionals. The program offers a structured learning environment combining classroom instruction and real-world application. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, apprentices can work alongside seasoned professionals, honing their skills.

The initiative, spearheaded by Kimberly Patterson, Neurodiagnostic Outpatient Manager with Memorial Healthcare, marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s commitment to excellence in healthcare. While noting that the apprenticeship follows a long history of support for the professional development and advancement of employees at Memorial, Patterson expressed her delight in bringing this new opportunity forward. “We are thrilled to introduce the Neurodiagnostic Technologist Apprenticeship Program at Memorial Healthcare,” she stated. “Creating career growth opportunities with the ability to promote from within is truly a gift to both staff and employer. We hope this is the first of many apprenticeships here at Memorial.”

Apprentices in the Neurodiagnostic Technologist program will receive 290 hours of instructor-led lead didactic instruction through ASET while completing 4,000 hours of hands-on work experience at Memorial Healthcare.

Melissa Buehler, a current Memorial Healthcare employee, accepted a new position as a Neurodiagnostic Technologist Apprentice. When Melissa was asked what she was looking forward to in this new chapter of her professional careers, Buehler responded, “I think this is a wonderful opportunity that Memorial offers employees. It allows us to broaden our skill set and knowledge while gaining valuable education for our future.”
