(Thursday, August 31, 2023 – Owosso, MI) – Memorial Healthcare is pleased to announce Cassie Grinnell, Registered Nurse, in its Intensive Care Unit as its third quarter recipient of the DAISY Award. Cassie was recognized with the DAISY Award for going above and beyond to make her patients feel safe and comfortable. Cassie started her career in the medical field working as a phlebotomist. She then became a Licensed Practical Nurse before progressing into a Registered Nurse. Cassie has been employed with Memorial Healthcare since June 2022.
“The DAISY Award stands as a highly esteemed recognition for nurses. It’s a privilege to bestow this accolade upon Cassie, whose nominated account was truly moving. I’m excited about the prospect of continuing to acknowledge the exceptional nurses at Memorial Healthcare through the DAISY award in the years ahead.” Says Robin Cannon, BSN, RN, Director of Patient Care Services.
Cassie received this award based on the following nomination story, “My wife had to have emergency surgery and Cassie was her day nurse. She was amazing and made my wife feel comfortable and helped us learn about how to administer the insulin my wife will now need going forward. Cassie was awesome. She went above and beyond to help my wife cleaning her and helping her go to the bathroom along with a million other little things that really made my wife feel safe and comfortable. You’re lucky to have a nurse as great as Cassie on your team and I hope Memorial appreciates her amazing work and dedication.”
Cassie was presented with a certificate of recognition, a DAISY pin, cinnamon rolls, and an incredible serpentine stone sculpture carved by the artists of the Shona Tribe located in Zimbabwe, Africa. This sculpture is known as the “Healer’s Touch” and it portrays the embracing relationship nurses have with their patients.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate, and skillful care given by nurses every day. Nurses are nominated by their patients and patient’s families. DAISY Award nominations are accepted all year long and can be made here or in person at the hospital’s main campus.
