Memorial Healthcare Receives National IT Award

Mid-Michigan hospital honored as leader in IT focused on improved patient safety and health

OWOSSO, Mich., November 16, 2020 – Memorial Healthcare has been recognized as one of the leading hospitals in the adoption of information technology, according to results from the 2020 Healthcare’s Most Wired Program. Memorial Healthcare was recognized across all three categories: acute, ambulatory and long-term care.

Conducted by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHiME), Most Wired is a program designed to elevate the health and care of communities around the world by encouraging the optimal use of information technology. An annual survey is leveraged to identify, recognize and certify the adoption, implementation and use of IT by healthcare provider organizations to improve patient safety and health outcomes.

“Through the adoption of innovative technologies, such as Telehealth, Memorial Healthcare has continually elevated not only the quality of care we provide to our community, but also their access to our services during a time when it is needed most,” said Thomas Kurtz, Ph.D., Vice President of Information Services at Memorial Healthcare.  “This award is a testament to our team’s commitment and passion for implementing new strategies designed to create a seamless experience for our hospital teams and patients. We remain committed to exploring cutting-edge technologies to further improve our operations and engagement with patients.”

The hospitals recognized in this year’s list include those that have implemented electronic medical records with state-of-the-art securities to protect patients’ data, launched patient portals, developed telehealth solutions, increased access to data at the point of care, and created tools to engage patients and their families throughout the care process.

In the last two years, CHiME has reported that healthcare organizations throughout the U.S. have structured their IT programs to focus on offering comprehensive security programs to safeguard their patients medical and financial data, as well varying access to care for communities through the deployment of telehealth services. To meet the demands of an increasingly digital world, remote access to EHR and imaging data has vastly improved across the industry with nearly a 100 percent adoption rate among healthcare providers.
