About Dr. Jan Liu, MD
Dr. Liu holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in biology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, as well as a Master’s of Health Science (MHS) degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine and completed his residency at the Sparrow/MSU Family Medicine Residency Program in Lansing, Michigan. Dr. Liu is Board Certified in Family Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP).
Prior to attending medical school, he served in number of positions in state and federal health policy organizations, where he has been a staunch advocate for improved healthcare services for vulnerable populations. He has also worked in biomedical research and has co-authored seven peer-reviewed scientific publications. His most recent publication is scheduled to be published in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Dr Liu is very knowledgeable and attentive to my illness. He was very thorough and understanding. I was very comfortable with the plan he has came up with to take care of my Illness.
Dr. Liu was fabulous. He worked with me a plan of care that I could participate in without just tellling me what to do. He explained the whys and wherefores of medicines, their actions and anything they might not mix with. He indicated that if what was tried did not work, there were other options. He took into account my insurance, the cost of certain medications, and other choices. He involved me in my own care, which was refreshing. He was friendly, very at ease, made eye contact when speaking instead of burying his face in my chart. He was cognizant of my existence and my individuality. He was a delightful change. This was only my third visit and I felt like he had been with me for a while. He was invested it seemed and enjoyed his job.

Dr. Liu examined a skin lesion, talked with me about three options, and recommended removing the lesion for biopsy. I agreed, and he removed it in the office!
