Potential National IV Fluid Shortage

POTENTIAL NATIONAL IV FLUID SHORTAGE
Memorial Healthcare implementing mitigation strategies

Friday, October 11 (2024) – Owosso, MI – At Memorial Healthcare, patient safety is always our top priority.

Due to the impact of Hurricane Helene, our IV fluid supplier, Baxter, experienced significant flooding at their North Cove manufacturing site, leading to a potential nationwide IV fluid shortage. While this may sound concerning, we want to reassure you that Memorial Healthcare is fully prepared and taking proactive measures to manage this situation.

Our team has developed comprehensive strategies to ensure we continue delivering the highest level of care, including carefully assessing our current inventory, prioritizing clinical needs to ensure essential supplies are available, securing alternative sources for fluids and medications, optimizing fluid management protocols for efficient use, adjusting pharmacy operations as needed, and establishing a clinical response team to oversee and manage available IV supplies.

We are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available or if any significant changes arise.

Rest assured, we are doing everything necessary to keep you safe and cared for, ensuring that patient care remains uninterrupted.
