The event will begin at 6:45 p.m., with a Wave of Light ceremony at 7 p.m. The ceremony is part of an international observance held each year on October 15 to remember babies lost through miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss and to offer support to the families who carry their memories.
During the ceremony, attendees will receive battery-operated candles to participate in the Wave of Light, creating a collective moment of remembrance and reflection. Parents and families will also have the opportunity to have their baby’s name recognized during the ceremony, should they choose to participate.
In addition to the ceremony, Memorial Healthcare will provide pregnancy and infant loss resources and offer a remembrance activity where parents can create a memory card or votive holder in honor of their baby. Bottled water and cookies will also be available.
The event will take place on the front lawn near the main lobby of Memorial Healthcare, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors to the auditorium or NOW Educational Theatre.
“Pregnancy and infant loss can be an incredibly difficult and deeply personal experience,” said Melissa Baird, MSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, PMH-C, Nurse Manager of the Family Birth Place at Memorial Healthcare. “This ceremony provides an opportunity for families to come together, remember their babies and know that they are not alone. We hope to create a welcoming and compassionate space for remembrance, reflection and support.”
