Katie Topping, RN, Honored with DAISY Award at Memorial Healthcare

Thursday, October 31 (2024) – Owosso – Memorial Healthcare is pleased to announce Katie Topping, Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse, at its Family Birth Place, as its third quarter recipient of the DAISY Award! Katie received this award based on the following nomination:

“In November of 2021, I was on the Family Birth Place unit to have my first child. As a first-time mom, I was scared of the unknowns and didn’t know what to expect I had labored for 26 hours, was tired, was hungry, and just wanted to be able to hold my baby boy. My night shift nurse, Katie, was extraordinary. She was constantly checking on me, asking how I was doing, repositioning me, validating my feelings, and holding my hand through the process.  She made my first delivery memorable. When I came back for my second delivery, I asked for Katie by name. When in my second delivery, I had her care for my postpartum recovery; it was that much more memorable. She kept in sight our entire family as she kept an eye on my husband when he wasn’t feeling well after delivery.”

Katie was presented with a certificate of recognition, a DAISY pin, cinnamon rolls, and an incredible serpentine stone sculpture carved by the artists of the Shona Tribe located in Zimbabwe, Africa. This sculpture is known as the “Healer’s Touch,” and it portrays the embracing relationship nurses have with their patients.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate, and skillful care given by nurses every day. Nurses are nominated by their patients and patient’s families. DAISY Award nominations are accepted all year long and can be made here or in person at the hospital’s main campus.
