Becky Rider, RN, Honored with DAISY Award at Memorial Healthcare

Tuesday, October 28 (2025) – Owosso – Memorial Healthcare is pleased to announce Becky Rider, a Registered Nurse in our Hospice department, as its third quarter recipient of the DAISY Award! Becky received this award based on the following nomination:

“From the instant Becky met my mother and father we knew this woman was special. Not only did Becky display the highest level of professionalism, her level of compassion was off the charts. She had instant respect and rapport with our family which made her recommendations calming in the midst of chaos as my father drew closer to the end. She as assigned as the primary care giver but she took on many other roles as well. She became an advocate, a trusted confidant, a sympathetic ear, and the voice of empathy throughout our time knowing her.

Becky was there to explain some difficult realities to all of us and she did so with confidence and compassion. I watched her explain difficult transitions to my mother and comfort her in her grief. While my father was still at his home, things took a quick turn and she came to check on us on her day off. She was there during every hard change that happened, comforting us and explaining that with each new change, this process was normal. Again, after dad had passed, she volunteered on her own time, to stay with my mother while we met with Nelson House to make the necessary arrangements. Yet again, at the funeral Becky was there with words of hope and compassion. Never in my life have I known anyone for such a short amount of time who had also made a massive positive impact not only in my own life, but the lives of my entire family.

Unless you have Mother Theresa working there, Becky is the only choice for the Daisy Award. Lastly, one of the things she told my dad on the first day is- “we only want to do things that bring you joy.” That phrase is not only for those in their last days. It’s a mantra that has given me personally great comfort and to not let time go by with things that don’t bring joy to my life and my family. God Bless Becky, she brings us joy!”

Becky was presented with a certificate of recognition, a DAISY pin, cinnamon rolls, and an incredible serpentine stone sculpture carved by the artists of the Shona Tribe located in Zimbabwe, Africa. This sculpture is known as the “Healer’s Touch,” and it portrays the embracing relationship nurses have with their patients.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate, and skillful care given by nurses every day. Nurses are nominated by their patients and patient’s families. DAISY Award nominations are accepted all year long and can be made here or in person at the hospital’s main campus.
